Dental professionals often hear, “No one has ever done that before” when performing an oral cancer screening. Comprehensive screening is non-negotiable and critical to early detection and reducing the risk of liability.
Using instructional screening videos and photos, this course will unpack the components of a comprehensive visual and tactile, extraoral, and intraoral evaluation, which includes proper palpation techniques, evaluation of the thyroid gland, evaluation of the oropharynx including documentation of Tonsil Grade, and the opportunity to perform an HPV oropharyngeal swab test. By attending this workshop, hygienists will increase their confidence when screening and have a solid knowledge of the components of a comprehensive screening.
